Area V
Is Alive

Chris Sower
Area Director For Wisconsin

EANGUS is divided into groups of states called Areas. Wisconsin is in Area V. Area five (V) is made up of Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska. Each area has three Area Directors, and one of those is called the Area Chairperson. These Area Directors are also on the Executive Council of EANGUS. Each Area Director is assigned to several states in the Area, and provides guidance and information to those states as to what is happening at the EANGUS level.

There are many issues and decisions to be made at an EANGUS national conference. Sometimes it takes more than one state to make or kill an issue, and the more states on one side or the other can make or kill that issue. An Area caucus meeting is used to get a consensus of the issues, and as an exchange of ideas and information to see what other Area states are doing in their membership and other programs they have. That way when we all go to the national EANGUS conference, we in Wisconsin know what we have to do, and what to expect from the other Area V states.

The annual Area caucus meeting is held each year in Spring, in one of the states in the area. They are usually held on the same weekend in May as Armed Forces Day. Some members that have gone compare this to a mini national conference. The host tries to outdo the previous year’s host by putting out a lot of hospitality. The meeting is just one day, Saturday. Details on each year’s caucus are published in the Bucky’s Bulletin.

At the annual EANGUS conference there is a daily Area Caucus to discuss the immediate issues that will be brought up at the meetng business sessions. This Caucus time is also to elect the Area Directors that will sit on the EANGUS Executive Council.
