Conferences / Caucuses

Conferences and Caucuses are organized and held for the membership to attend to make the decisions that the Executive Board, Executive Council, Chairpersons, and Functional Managers can't make on their own, thereby providing direction to the leadership how to run the Association. The Association belongs to the members, and the members must make certain decisions based on the Bylaws. Below you will find the details of each type of conference or caucus the WNGEA is involved in. PLEASE ATTEND EVERY YEAR.

State WNGEA Conferences.

The annual WNGEA State Educational Conference, held in the Spring, is always a unique experience with many rewards to be found. While the main purpose of the conference is to receive the annual reports of the various committees and functions, we discuss the future direction of the association and the programs that are established, and suggested new programs that need to be discussed and approved.

The WNGEA state conference is built around education and fun. The host unit usually selects a hotel and meeting place that offers room to setup icebreakers, hospitality rooms, and a banquet for everyone to enjoy before, during and after the meetings. At the banquet, awards are presented to our special members and guests. Also is a keynote speaker that has a special message for our association. The families of the WNGEA members have many options of dining and shopping and family fun to enjoy all during the weekend.

As a member of the WNGEA that has not attended a WNGEA State Educational Conference, you are missing a great opportunity that many have enjoyed. As soon as you see the next years conference registration form in the Bucky’s Bulleting, take the initiative and get yourself and your spouse registered.

Area Five Caucus

The Area Caucus is the warm up meeting to the EANGUS National Conference. It is only for the states that belong to Area Five. The Caucus is held in May, on Armed Forces Day weekend (Friday and Saturday), in a centralized city in the Area that is within a days drive for all states.

The three elected Directors run the Caucus, and chaired by the Area Chairperson. The other two directors are there to handle other duties such as Treasurer, and Membership. Each Area Director is assigned a responsibility or a committee chair at the EANGUS level as a member of the EANGUS Executive Council.

National EANGUS Conferences

The EANGUS Annual conference is truly an educational experience for any and all members of the National Guard and their families. Each year in the late Summer the national conference is held in a different city, and is hosted by the respective state chapter. The conference brings together delegates and representatives from all 50 states and US territories. The purpose of the conference is to set the goals and policies for the upcoming year, elect new leadership, and receive the reports for the past year. This is an information sharing conference where members are updated by the top level military, congressional, department, and cabinet leaders. The conference also allows for individual members that have a state association responsibility to network with counterparts from other states to solve problems they are having back home; what is being done in states that seem to be doing great, etc., and bring those ideas back home to implement into their state programs.

Registration for the EANGUS conferences are available online from the EANGUS website. A hard copy registration form is available for those without online services.

Hosting a State WNGEA Conference.

Over the past 30 plus years each annual conference has had a host. When a unit sponsored host could not host the conference, the Executive Council stepped in. I am sure that most all units would be interested in hosting a state conference, but they don’t know what is all involved doing it. Those units that have been hosts in the past have had much success doing so, and many have hosted several conferences. Besides providing excellent entertainment for the conference attendees, past conference committee and units have had a profitable experience for the special projects for their units.

The key to a successful conference hosting is having adequate lead time to properly prepare all that is needed. One year might not be ideal, but it can be done. Two years is an ideal preparation time. The longer the lead time, the more time the host has to prepare and build up the finances they need to host the state conference.

If you feel that your unit is ready to host a state WNGEA conference, you need to do several things before making a commitment:

> Pick a year you want to prepare for.

> Download and review the State Conference Handbook.
This will give you an idea how to manage your conference.

> Notify the WNGEA Office. You will be sent a updated CD of the State Conference Handbook with all the changes, and working spreasheets and forms.

> Make your bid presentation at the next State Conference, or at any Quarterly Executive Council meetings.

Future Conferences that are bid and still open:
